The Southeast Nebraska Adult Drug Court held a graduation ceremony on March 9 at the Saline County District Courthouse in Wilbur, with Judge David Bargen presiding. Justin Antons of Directions Counseling in Beatrice served as the featured speaker for the event.

Graduation from the Adult Drug Court marks a significant achievement for participants who have completed an intensive program focused on substance use treatment, supervision, and accountability. These programs typically last at least 20 months and are designed to help individuals build lives free from drug and alcohol dependence.

Other team members present included Shaylene Smith, defense attorney; Braden Dvorak, prosecutor; Officer Tony Lytle, law enforcement liaison; Nichole White, treatment provider; and probation staff. The program uses a collaborative approach within the court system to support eligible nonviolent individuals with substance use disorders.

Drug Courts employ evidence-based strategies such as risk assessments, individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent drug testing, structured incentives and sanctions, and access to rehabilitative services. These efforts aim to reduce recidivism and substance use while strengthening public safety.
