Jackson Williams, 41, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced on March 13 in federal court for escaping from federal custody. United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., imposed a sentence of 40 months’ imprisonment. Williams will also serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his prison sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.

Williams had previously been convicted by a federal jury on December 3, 2025, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and was serving a 90-month custodial sentence with the United States Bureau of Prisons followed by three years of supervised release.

While housed at United States Penitentiary Florence in Colorado, Williams applied for and received approval for a furlough on December 18, 2024. The furlough required him to acknowledge its terms and conditions by signing and placing his thumbprint on the document. One condition stated that he remained in the custody of the United States Attorney General during the furlough period; another specified that failure to follow instructions could result in an escape charge.

Williams was supposed to travel unaccompanied from USP Florence to Residential Reentry Center Dismas Charities in Omaha using public transportation paid for by USP Florence. Upon arrival in Omaha, he was directed to take a taxi from the bus terminal to Dismas Charities but never arrived there as instructed.

On January 10, 2025, USP Florence filed an escape notice after learning from Dismas Charities that Williams had not reported or contacted anyone regarding his arrival and his whereabouts were unknown since January 9. Later investigations led Deputy United States Marshals to believe Williams had been seen near Sienna Francis House in late June. On July 28, Omaha Police Officers found Williams near a park at 28th and Pinkney streets where he admitted his identity and was taken into custody without incident.

A search revealed two phones, cigarettes, credit cards, a federal prison identification card with Williams’s name and photo, small amounts of methamphetamine totaling 1.2 grams in two baggies, and a drug pipe among his belongings at the scene.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals Service with assistance from the Omaha Police Department.
