Joshua M. Meyer, 44, of Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. The sentencing took place on August 22, 2025, in Omaha’s federal court. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr., imposed a sentence of 250 months’ imprisonment. Meyer will also serve a 20-year term of supervised release after completing his prison sentence and must pay $5,000 in restitution to each of six identified victims.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation began when Medialab/KIK (KIK) reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that a user had uploaded files depicting child pornography between June 27 and July 17, 2023. The IP address associated with these uploads was traced to Meyer’s residence in Omaha.

A member of the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force obtained a search warrant for Meyer’s KIK account. The review found that Meyer sent child pornography files to other users during the period mentioned in the report. Additional reports from KIK about users sharing child pornography were also linked to Meyer’s residence.

During an interview with law enforcement, Meyer admitted using several KIK accounts flagged by NCMEC to send and receive child pornography. He is a registered sex offender with a prior conviction from February 6, 2014, for receipt and distribution of child pornography in the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska. At the time he committed these new offenses in June and July 2023, he was serving a supervised release term related to his earlier conviction.

Meyer also acknowledged possessing a TracFone cell phone that he used to bypass restrictions placed on his known phone as part of his supervised release conditions. He used this device to access KIK and distribute illegal material.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood—a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 aimed at combating online child sexual exploitation by coordinating federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders and rescue victims (www.projectsafechildhood.gov).

The investigation was conducted by the Omaha FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
