Bernie Charles Campbell, a 56-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, was sentenced on March 19 in federal court for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine mixture with a prior serious felony drug trafficking conviction. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down a sentence of 130 months in prison. Following his release, Campbell will serve an eight-year term of supervised release and must forfeit $4,840 seized from him and his residence.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address drug distribution in the Lincoln area. According to United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods, information provided to authorities indicated that Campbell was involved in distributing methamphetamine between June and August of last year.
A search warrant was obtained for Campbell’s residence on August 10. Before officers executed the warrant, they observed Campbell leaving his home with a small child and followed him to a local restaurant parking lot where he was detained. Investigators found a homemade explosive device and $1,300 cash in his car. At the residence, authorities discovered at least 200 grams of methamphetamine inside a safe located in the bedroom shared by Campbell, the child, and the child’s mother. Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and additional cash were also recovered from the room.
Campbell had previously been convicted in Lancaster County for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and served six to twelve years beginning in 2009.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force.
