United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods has announced the sentencing of Mark Coon, a 55-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. On May 20, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Coon was sentenced for possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of actual methamphetamine. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard imposed a sentence of 120 months’ imprisonment on Coon. In the federal system, parole is not an option. Following his release from prison, Coon will be subject to a five-year term of supervised release.

The case against Coon began on October 4, 2023, when narcotics investigators approached him at a gas station in Lincoln and discovered he had more than 110 grams of methamphetamine in his possession. Purity testing conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory confirmed that the bag contained at least 100 grams of pure methamphetamine. During discussions with investigators, Coon admitted his intention to sell the meth found that day and disclosed that he had sold approximately two and one-half pounds of meth to seven customers over the previous month.

The investigation into this case was carried out by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force.
