Cleophus Collier, 35, of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been sentenced in federal court for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down a sentence of 45 months in prison on February 12, 2026. After serving this sentence, Collier will be subject to three years of supervised release. In addition, Collier received a separate sentence of 12 months and one day for violating supervised release; this term will run consecutively with the initial sentence.
According to information provided by United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods, law enforcement officers had a warrant for Collier’s arrest due to a federal supervised release violation. When approached by officers, Collier removed a backpack and placed it on the ground beside him. Inside the backpack, police found a loaded Springfield XDS handgun along with seven rounds of .45 caliber ammunition. The firearm was determined to have been reported stolen from Omaha in 2016.
Collier is identified as a three-time convicted felon and is legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The investigation was conducted by the Metro Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service.
“There is no parole in the federal system,” stated the press release.
