Seth Fontaine, a 30-year-old resident of Hastings, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for distributing fentanyl. The sentencing took place on December 3, 2025, in Omaha’s federal court before United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher. Following his release from prison, Fontaine will be subject to five years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.

According to court documents, on May 17, 2023, Fontaine contacted an individual via Facebook asking if they had Narcan. After confirming that Narcan was available, Fontaine responded with: “Cool, thank you, I got some real fentanyl, wanna smoke some.” The two met at the victim’s residence in Hastings and smoked fentanyl together. The victim lost consciousness and stopped breathing during the incident. Emergency responders were called and administered Narcan before transporting the victim to a local hospital for further treatment.

At the scene, law enforcement found pipes containing fentanyl residue, burnt tin foil, and a lit torch.

United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods stated: “This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Overdose Task Force, which is comprised of law enforcement from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Omaha Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.”
