On January 8, 2026, the Hall County Reentry Court held a graduation ceremony for two participants at the Hall County District Court in Grand Island. Judge Andrew Butler presided over the event.
The program that these individuals completed is described as intensive and combines behavioral health treatment with community supervision and a focus on accountability. According to the court, “The graduation marks the successful completion of an intensive program that combines comprehensive behavioral health treatment, close community supervision, and a strong emphasis on accountability.”
Reentry Courts serve as an alternative route within the criminal justice system for nonviolent offenders with drug-related charges. The approach used is specialized and team-based, operating within the existing court framework. These courts aim to lower rates of reoffending and substance use among those with substance use disorders while also prioritizing public safety and supporting rehabilitation efforts.
The process involves risk and needs assessments that are validated, early access to personalized behavioral health treatment, frequent chemical testing that is both random and scheduled, as well as incentives or sanctions based on participant progress. Additional rehabilitative services are also provided.
