A federal jury in Lincoln, Nebraska, found Jose Garcia Jimenez guilty on April 29 of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine, United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced. Garcia Jimenez, a 35-year-old legal permanent resident originally from Guatemala and living in Grand Island, was convicted on two counts involving more than 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing cocaine.
Garcia Jimenez faces up to 40 years in prison and a minimum of five years for each count. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis set sentencing for August 6.
Evidence presented at trial showed that between June and November 25, 2024, Garcia Jimenez and another individual sold cocaine from their residence in Grand Island. In late November, law enforcement intercepted a package addressed to the home containing two kilograms of cocaine. Authorities then obtained a search warrant for the residence where they seized multiple cell phones, three firearms, ammunition, scales, drug paraphernalia, psilocyn mushrooms, cash and an additional half kilogram of cocaine. Investigators also downloaded the cell phones belonging to Garcia Jimenez and his associate; these revealed communications consistent with drug transactions.
The case was investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol Commercial Interdiction Unit in Omaha as well as the TRIDENT and CODE Task Forces made up of law enforcement agencies throughout west-central and southwest Nebraska.
